The US Department of Defense (DoD) has modified a contract with BAE Systems on 9 November 2023 to resume production and delivery of Paladin M109A7 self-propelled howitzers and M992A3 ammunition carriers (CAVs).

Under a contract valued at $63.9 million, BAE Systems, the ground vehicle original equipment manufacturer, will fulfill the order at its facility in York, Pennsylvania, with the goal of delivering the systems to the Army Contracting Command by December 30, 2027 .

Originally prototyped in May 2011, the contractor achieved full-rate production for the latest Paladin artillery system, the M109A7 version, along with the upgraded M992A3 CAV, to the US Army in late June 2022.

The M109A7 modernization includes upgrades to the hull, turret, engine and suspension systems, offering increased reliability, survivability and performance over the M109A6 artillery system.
