The French president attended the G7 summit in Germany this week where he outlined his rationale for a “New Roman Empire” that would include both Turkey and countries from north Africa to boost regional unity.
This new community will respect and follow the “core values” of the EU. will cooperate on issues of security, energy, transport, infrastructure and population movements.
Macron’s proposal was heard by the other EU leaders. and it has been a topic of discussion around it with differing opinions and reactions.

Greek-Turkish: The idea of a “Roman Empire” is not new
However, the above proposal of Emmanuel Macron is not new and shows the willingness for enlargement in the EU. and especially now, after the tension in relations with Russia.

His opinion is that the specific idea should be restructured while he argued that Turkey should definitely be in it. “I think we basically have to recreate the Mediterranean of the Roman Empire,” was his signature comment.
