Upgrade of 100 LEONIDAS and 150 OPLITIS (4×4) vehicles proposed by Rheinmetall as supplies to the Greek Army

From Savvas D. Vlassis

The proposal submitted by the German Rheinmetall for the supply of the KF41 Lynx Armored Combat Vehicle to the Greek Army contains very interesting benefits, as “exchanges”. The information states that in addition to the capital of the industrial dimension included, for the creation of a state-of-the-art unit in Northern Greece jointly with KMW – KNDS, Rheinmetall’s proposal also includes specific supplies of material for the Greek Army.

In addition to the concession of the TOMA Marder 1A3, which, although they were finally included in the Soltz-Mitsotakis political level agreement, Rheinmetall played a constructive role in this direction, the provisions include the construction for the Greek Army of 150 OPLITIS armored vehicles (4×4 ) of the Greek EODH. The latter is an industrial partner of KMW and Rheinmetall in Greece, after the decision to abolish the old regime of dealers.

OPLITIS is a vehicle that has attracted the interest of the two German companies, as they do not have a similar proposal in this particular category of vehicles, in terms of weight and cost.

For this reason, in the expanded Framework Agreement signed between KMW and EODH on June 16, the joint promotion of the vehicle on the international market is included. The number of 150 vehicles offered allows the Greek Army to choose more than one version, in order to cover more needs.
