Hellenic Army: Ongoing proposals for the upgrade of the Artillery – The case of the Tamnava

With an official announcement, the Ministry of National Defense (Ministry of Defense) published the presentation by representatives of the company YUGOIMPORT SDPR at the General Staff. Specifically, on Friday 03 June, a presentation was made to the staff of the General Staff by representatives of the company YUGOIMPORT SDPR, regarding the modernization, inspection – repair of the RM – 70 rocket launcher, the inspection – repair of the 122 mm A rockets and the TAMAN system.

It is known that Combat Artillery is interested in modernizing all RM-70 launchers with new 122mm rockets that double the range of existing JROFs and improve their accuracy. The program concerns the upgrade of the Greek JROFs with a Serbian collection based on the Serbian G2000 rockets with a range of 40km.

Tamnava: Shooting at targets of regular interest at distances of more than 70 km

Right next to the SHUMADIA launcher we find another very interesting exhibit. This is the Tamnava Multiple Missile Launcher (RPG) with 262mm caliber rockets or in another configuration with more rockets but shorter range. A total of 12 Yerina2 rockets are carried in the configuration with 262mm caliber rockets.

12 Yerina2 type rockets are carried in the configuration with 262mm caliber rockets.

Yerina2 have a maximum range of 75 km. Alternatively, there is the possibility of choosing 122 mm rocket launchers such as the G2000 with a range of 45 km instead of the 262 mm which is the heaviest configuration. Both rockets are fired with either GPS or INS. They are carried on a KAMAZ 6560 vehicle.

It should be noted that the National Guard has procured a sufficient number of Tamnava.

The potential choice of another system: SHUMADIA

The SHUMADIA weapon system belongs to the category of surface-to-surface missile systems with the mission of attacking enemy strategic targets, mainly of interest at distances over 250 kilometers. Such targets are considered to be air bases, ports, ports, airports, industrial facilities, refineries, material and personnel gathering places as well as headquarters.

Each SHUMADIA launcher carries four Yerina1 400mm caliber missiles with a maximum range of 285 km. The Yerina1 missile weighs 550 kg and has a war (explosive) charge of 200 kg while the accuracy taking into account the CEP is of the order of 50 meters. As the person in charge of Yugoimport informs us, the standard composition includes an artillery squadron with 18 systems divided into three artillery pieces of 6 launchers. The Yerina1 rocket is launched using GPS but only with an inertial navigation system (INS) in a GPS denial environment.

The artillery officer of the Serbian army informs us that the targeting at such distances takes place either by a unit of special forces that have penetrated with obscurity and provide shooting evidence close to the target of interest or with the existence of a UAV. Yugoimport right next door also presented many home drone solutions. Another very interesting solution for targeting is by means of electronic warfare taking into account the electromagnetic spectrum and communications emissions. We will refer below with a presentation of a relevant system.

The four Yerina1 missiles are carried in a modern 8 × 8 vehicle. The vehicle is highly agile. The launcher of the four Yerina1 is electric with simultaneous lifting in height and direction to shoot the transported weapons. The Yerina1 is fired from the cockpit which is fully armored and protected from small calibers and fragments of curved track weapons. The crew of each SHUMADIA launcher consists of four people.
