A large number of firefighters are fighting to contain the fire that broke out at the Balıklı Greek Hospital in Istanbul.
The hospital was evacuated as the fire spread. The flames engulfed the entire roof of the building within a short time. Paramedics, firefighters, police and civilians removed the elderly from the hospital on stretchers and wheelchairs.
Patients were referred to other area hospitals. Istanbul government officials said that so far no deaths or injuries have been reported due to the fire and that nearly 80 patients have been transferred to other hospitals.
