Christos Stylianidis: “The safety of coastal shipping is our first priority at the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy”

“The safety of coastal shipping is for us, at the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy, a first priority” emphasized the Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy, Christos Stylianidis, during his speech at the specialization seminar on the “Guide for preparing feasibility studies for port services” projects” which took place, today, at the Eugenides Foundation, under the organization of the ESPA Staff Structure of the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy, the group of experts of the “Jaspers” program and the Administrative Authority of the “TRANSPORT 2021-2027” Program.

Concluding his speech, the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy underlined the need for immediate and continuous cooperation of all those involved in the field, which will lead to the upgrading and security of the port infrastructures, while promoting the economic and social development of the island regions.

The following is a comparison of Mr. Stylianides’ speech:

“Ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to the training course on the guide to the preparation of feasibility studies for port projects. And thank you very much for your participation. I also thank the NSRF Staff Structure of the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy – Ms. Fokas and her team – as well as the team of experts of the Jaspers program and the Managing Authority of the “TRANSPORT 2021-2027” Program for organizing this important specialization seminar. But also for our effective cooperation during the planning and programming of the actions. Kudos, too, to Jaspers for the great job he did in producing the guide. Warm thanks also to Mr. Markoulidis and Mr. Kindynis – our trainers – for their dedication and contribution to today’s seminar.

Friends,

The safety of coastal shipping is a top priority for us at the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy. In order to achieve maximum security, adequate and modern port infrastructures are required. Precisely for this reason, in the current programming period of the NSRF 2021-2027, we have given special importance to this area. Which is naturally connected to the preservation of the territorial, economic and social cohesion of the island area. The action “Development of island port infrastructures” – which has been included in the Sectoral Program “Transport 2021-2027” of our Ministry – includes critical interventions in more than 30 ports outside the Trans-European Transport Network. From the Diapontian Islands to Kastelorizo and from Gavdos to Samothraki.

The aim of these interventions is to upgrade the safety and quality of port services provided. The implementation of these projects is a demanding and difficult task. We need allies to achieve it. We look forward to your participation and assistance, Port Management and Exploitation Agencies. Your input is critical to accomplishing this mission. We are fully aware of the challenges. However, we are determined to proceed methodically and efficiently. In this context, today’s training seminar is being organized, which aims to present the feasibility study preparation guide and familiarize all those involved with the necessary procedures and requirements.

We therefore invest in human resources and in the development of the capacities (Capacity Building) of all people who are important links in the chain of implementation of these actions.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The future of our port infrastructure depends on our cooperation and commitment to our common goals. I am confident that our cooperation will be efficient and will lead to the upgrading and safety of our port infrastructure, while promoting the economic and social development of our island regions. Thank you again, everyone, for your presence and dedication to this important work.

I wish you every success in your work this 2 days”.
