Saab conducts first test firing of Meteor missile from JAS-39E Gripen aircraft

Sweden’s Saab has announced that it has successfully fired the Meteor long-range anti-aircraft missile from a JAS-39E Gripen aircraft. According to the announcement during the test the Meteor performed a successful release, flight and target engagement without any failure.

The shot was fired at an altitude of 16,500 feet. The test was conducted as part of weapons certification on the new JAS-39 Gripen versions E (single-seat) and F (two-seat). Aircraft of these versions have been chosen by Sweden and Brazil.

The Meteor is a 180 kg missile, capable of flying at a speed of up to Mach.4 and a maximum range of over 100 km.
