On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, the Minister of National Defense, Mr. Nikos Dendias, and the Chief of the General Defense Forces, General Dimitrios Houpis, visited the headquarters of the XII Mechanized Infantry Division (XII M/K MP) and were informed about the mission and activities of the Formation, and subsequently participated at the East Macedonia Thrace Forum II in Alexandroupoli.
Afterwards, the Chief of GEETHA, accompanied by the Chief of the GES Lt. Gen. Georgios Kostidis, the Commander of the 1st ARMY/EU – OHQ “ACHILLES” Lt. Gen. Dimokritos Konstantakos and the Commander of the 4th Army Corps Lt. Gen. Stavros Papastathopoulos, visited the Guard Post (E.F. .) “DILOFOU” and E.F. “5”, and noted the operational readiness and high morale of the staff.
On Thursday, March 14, 2024, the Chief of the General Directorate of Military Affairs continued the visit to military installations of the Area of Responsibility of the Security Council in Evros. Specifically, he visited:
● The Unified Control Center for Border Surveillance (EKEES) in Nea Vyssa.
● E.F. “1” in Kastanies, where he met with the Minister of Citizen Protection Mr. Michalis Chrysochoidis, as well as the Surveillance Observatory (OP) “GREEN DOOR”.
● E.F. “126”, the E.F. “PLAGION”, the E.F. “C. KIPON” and the E.F. “HORSESHOE”.
● The area of the new deterrent barrier Psathadon – Manitsa, where he was informed about the progress of the construction works.
● The Static Power of the Melissokomeio area.
Addressing the staff of the local Formations, the Chief of GEETHA praised their sense of responsibility, professionalism and high morale and attitude, and gave orders and directions for constant vigilance and vigilance.
In the context of his presence in the Evros area, the Chief of the GHETHA also attended the ceremonies of handing over and receiving the Command of the XII and XVI M/K MP.
