Visit of the Delegation of the Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023 and in the presence of the Deputy Minister of National Defense Mr. Nikolaos Hardalia, the Chief of the GEETHA General Konstantinos Floros met with a delegation of the Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand (KOANZ) led by its President Mr. Antonis Tsourdalakis, as part of an official visit to in GREECE.

During the meeting, which took place in a particularly warm atmosphere, the historical ties between Greece, Australia and New Zealand were discussed as well as the value and role of expatriate Hellenism.

The Head of GEETHA, during his short greeting, welcomed the delegation and praised the work of KOANZ aimed at maintaining the ties of the diaspora with Greece, while he made special mention of the commemorations of the anniversary of the Battle of Crete that take place every year in Australia, and in which a delegation of the Armed Forces (AF) continuously participates (press here).

He highlighted the perennial but also emerging challenges that are taking shape in the particularly sensitive security environment of the Eastern Mediterranean, the Balkans and beyond, and emphasized the decisive role of our country as a pillar of stability in the region. He also referred to Greece’s special ties with Australia and New Zealand, for the strengthening of which the Greek diaspora has played a decisive role over the decades.

In the context of briefing the delegation, the Director of the Department of Strategy – Policy – Defense Planning and Capabilities of the General Staff of the General Staff (EA) Apostolos Mitsopoulos presented issues of defense policy as well as current geopolitical developments.

During its stay in our country, the Delegation visited Units and Services of the ED as well as cultural places as follows:

● On Sunday 09 July 2023, the Fleet Headquarters at Salamina Naval Station.

● On Monday July 10, 2023 the Presidential Guard and then the Acropolis Museum and the Acropolis.

● On Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 114 AM at Tanagra Air Base.

● On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the Special Forces Training Center (KEED) in Nea Peramos.
