US warships and aircraft carriers “loaded” with F-35s approached Taiwan

While China announced that its military would launch “targeted military actions” in response to the visit, the US 7th Fleet announced on Twitter today that the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, which has been in the area since early July, was sailing in the Philippine Sea, south of Taiwan.

The USS Ronald Reagan is accompanied by the destroyer USS Higgins, a US Navy official said on condition of anonymity. The Higgins is a multi-role warship equipped with the Aegis combat system, which mainly includes anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles.

The US Navy also released photos of the Ronald Reagan carrying out exercises with the supply ship USS Carl Brashear on Sunday. The aircraft carrier and its team “are conducting a routine mission in the western Pacific,” a US official said.
