“Under Erdogan, Turkey has moved away from NATO’s traditional role as a ‘trusted anchor’ in the southeast against Russia and other threats. Alexandroupolis can therefore be an alternative to Turkey for NATO forces in the region because it bypasses the Turkish Straits.”
Stressing the importance of the existing geographical features of the city of Alexandroupolis, Ruhe said that with the investment made here, it has a location that can become an important city for energy trade.
