They also set their sights on Crete

The summer will be anything but “calm” on the Greek-Turkish front – They are doing everything they can to divert the attention of Turkish citizens beyond the economic problems

After the reports that want the Turkish President to “prepare something big” for July 20, and in particular not to exclude the possibility of annexing the occupied part of Cyprus, his partner in the Turkish Government and leader of the “nationalist action” party Delvet Bahtceli, appeared with a map in which the Turkish territory even includes Crete!

In a meeting he had at the offices of the Gray Wolves with the “typical leader” of the nationalist organization, which he actually leads, he received, among other things, a map depicting the Aegean islands and Crete as Turkish territory.

Many analysts interpret Bakhceli’s extreme move as part of a wider effort by Turkey’s rulers to externalize the pressure they are feeling at home, with inflation skyrocketing and the country’s economy in dire straits.

Besides, it is a frequent phenomenon that the “dirty” work for Erdogan is done by his government partner, especially with regard to igniting the climate at the Greek-Turkish level.

The entire attitude and behavior of the Turkish government is not unrelated to the fact that in about a year there will be elections, which, as can be seen from the opinion polls for the first time, remove power from Tayyip Erdogan. The Turkish president, in his attempt to rally the electorate and to direct the attention of the Turkish citizens beyond the economic problems, according to several analysts, is choosing the path of tension in the Greek-Turkish language, which has always been a favorite of Turkish leaders.

However, this does not mean that all the challenges you present are only rhetorical crowns, no attempt will be made to implement them in the field. And that is why the governments in Cyprus and Greece must be doubly and triply careful.

With these data, it is considered certain that the tensions and challenges will not stop at least in the next period and the summer will be anything but “calm” on the Greek-Turkish front.
