The new XM-204 anti-tank mines are acquired by the US Army

The US Army has announced that it has signed a $353.98 million contract with Textron Systems to supply the new XM-204 Top Attack mines.

The five-year contract covers an unspecified number of mines and support services, up to $353.98 million. Deliveries will begin in 2023.

The mines are portable and are placed in the area of interest in minutes. They incorporate sensors so that they perceive the presence of an enemy tank in their area.

Once the target is located the mines launch the sub-munitions, which travel upwards at a predetermined height. Sub-munitions incorporate the warhead and tracking sensor. The sensor surveys the area and once it locates the target, the attack process begins.
