The General Staff of the Army, in the context of the continuous care for the personnel and the upgrading of the security and surveillance grid, proceeded with the contribution of prominent individuals and initiatives of the public and private sector, in the construction and renovation of military facilities as well as accepting the donation of general purpose vehicles.
In more detail, the Military Homes “KNITHAKI” in Didymoteicho were reconstructed and shaped, which came from the reconstruction of 2 buildings of the former Camp “ANTHLGOS (PZ) EMMANUEL KNITHAKI” following a donation by Mr. Theodoros Angelopoulos. A total of 12 apartments were built for the benefit of the families of military personnel serving in Northern Evros.
In addition, Guard Station 5 (“EF 5”) was built in the area of Nea Vyssa. The configuration of the surrounding area and the equipment of the Prison were donated by the “Greece 2021” committee and the Raycap company respectively. The new infrastructures upgrade, on the one hand, the operational capabilities of surveillance and deterrence in the sensitive area of North Evros, and on the other hand, the living conditions of the Prison staff.
Also, the delivery of 4 all-terrain personnel transport vehicles took place, which are part of the donation of 20 vehicles from the “Greece 2021” Committee to the Army General Staff. The receipt of the vehicles in question upgrades the border surveillance capability.
On Thursday, October 12, 2023, in the presence of the Chief of the General Staff of the Army Lieutenant General Angelos Houdeloudis as a representative of the Chief of the General Staff of the National Defense General Konstantinos Floros, the President of the “Greece 2021” Committee Mr. Giannas Angelopoulos-Daskalakis, Mr. Theodoros Angelopoulos, of the representative of the Raycap company, Mr. Argyriou Kayannas, the opening ceremonies of the above activities took place in Didymoteicho and Nea Vyssa.
The events were also attended by the Member of Parliament for Evros and Honorary Chief of the Greek Police, Mr. Anastasios Dimoshakis, the Mayor of Didymoteicho, Mr. Romylos Hatzigiannoglou, the Mayor of Orestiada, Mr. Vasilios Mavridis, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Didymoteicho, Orestia and Soufli, etc. Damaskinos, the Honorary Chief General General Charalambos Lalousis, the Secretary General of the Parliament Mr. Georgios Mylonakis, the Commander of the 4th Army Corps (4th SS) “THRACE” Lieutenant General Dimokritos Konstandakos, the Commander of the XVI Motorized Infantry Division (XVI M/K MP) “DIDYMOTEICHOU” Major General Konstantinos Karamanidis, active Army and Security Forces Officers, retired Army Officers and other guests.
