From August 2 to 4, the Chief of the General Staff of the Army Lt. General Charalambos Lalousis paid an official visit to Israel, at the invitation of his counterpart, Major General Tamir Yadai.

During his visit, the Chief met with his counterpart, with whom he exchanged views on matters of common interest. The meeting took place in an excellent atmosphere and the common intention was established for an even greater strengthening of the cooperation of the two sides.

In addition, the Chief met with the head of the International Defense Cooperation Directorate of the Israel Ministry of Defense Brigadier General (Ret.) Mishel Ben Baruch, while he also visited the headquarters of the National Training Center of Israel (National Training Center) where he was informed about the center’s mission and activities and toured its facilities.

Greece and Israel have deepened their military cooperation, with the Greek Army running two very important programs, which have been extensively reported on enikos.gr.

On the one hand is the upgrade of the first generation Apache of the Air Force. The Israelis offered an upgrade package of 19 old helicopters with electronics of their own development and manufacture, making them equal and in some respects better than the “Ds”.

On the other hand is the supply of Spike NLOS missiles. The missile system has a range of 32 kilometers, giving great capabilities to the helicopters.

However, these missiles will be able to be used by vehicles of the Greek Army as well as ships of the Navy.

These are precision missiles, which increase the interoperability and effectiveness of EDs. The upgrade was finally approved and includes the replacement of the optics and the certification by the manufacturing company (Boeing), with a price that reaches 36 million euros.

During his visit, the Chief laid a wreath at the Holocaust Memorial, while he also met with the Patriarch of Jerusalem and all Palestine, His Excellency. Theophilus III.
