Can civilians walk around the Naval Academy
The Visitor Center provides guided walking and driven tours for the public and a variety of guided walking tours for private groups. All proceeds from the sale of tours and merchandise benefit the Brigade of Midshipmen activities.
Can you drink alcohol at the Naval Academy?

As an upperclass midshipman, you may drink if you are the minimum legal age for drinking (21 in Maryland). If you choose to drink alcohol, the Naval Academy will provide social occasions where responsible use of alcohol is permitted, such as at an official reception.
Can you wear civilian clothes at USNA
1. CIVILIAN CLOTHING. Officers and enlisted personnel are permitted to have civilian clothing in their possession at naval activities ashore when authorized by the prescribing authority. Personnel aboard ship may have civilian clothing when authorized by the Commanding Officer.

There are several obstacles including that there are three male midshipmen for every female, all romantic acts are no-nos on the academy yard and everyone is undergoing intense academic and physical training to become a naval officer.

No tattoos are permitted on the head, face (to include ear), neck, and scalp. Permissible tattoos on the torso area of the body shall not be visible through white uniform clothing. Chest tattoos will not be visible when v-neck undergarments are worn underneath any· uniform.

The purchase of beer, wines and spirits by senior ratings on board HM ships is a privilege. While the drinking of spirits is permissible at sea under normal conditions the Commanding Officer has the authority to prohibit such sales when circumstances dictate, and in particular where the safety of the ship is involved.

Wear while conducting official business, when business attire is appropriate and participating in social events after normal working hours is not permitted. Consumption of alcohol in the NWUs off-base is not permitted. Consumption of alcohol in the NWUs on base is authorized as promulgated by Regional Commanders.

Holding Hands: Military personnel are not allowed to hold hands while in uniform. Males may escort women or help the elderly, but affectionate hand holding is a no-no.

Does the Navy pay for uniforms? Yes, but not for everything they need at boot camp. Recruits receive an initial uniform allowance of $1,157.21 for men and $1,371.69 for women. The sailor never sees the money, it goes directly to pay for the uniforms and is recorded as a credit and debt on the pay record.

Midshipmen are allowed to use their cell phones, but cannot walk and be on the phone when in uniform. During Plebe Summer, they will get three phone calls home for about 20 minutes each time. There will be NO cell phones available at any other time during Plebe Summer.

To stay at school, they can either get an abortion or give the baby up for adoption, severing their legal and financial responsibility. To keep the baby, they must leave the military academy.

We don’t physically beat, torture, haze, or harass plebes at the Naval Academy in the 21st century, but that does not take anything from the difficulty of plebe year. Plebe summer is still long, hot, and arduous.
