We have stormy developments on the Libyan front. If Greece does not take quick decisions, then we will find ourselves in the past.

According to Arab sources: “Turkey will soon start oil and gas exploration off the coast of Libya.”

Analytically:

“Sources in the energy sector in Turkey announced that talks will soon begin between the National Oil Corporation in Libya and the Turkish Oil Company (TPAO) to discuss cooperation in the implementation of the memorandum of understanding on hydrocarbon resources (oil and natural gas), signed between Turkey and the Interim Unity Government, headed by Abdel Hamid Dabaiba.

According to a report in the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, media citing the same sources that the two companies are encouraged to establish joint projects and cooperation in the field of research and exploration, based on seismic survey vessels and Turkish drilling vessels.

The report adds, “The Libyan Corporation and the Turkish company will also cooperate, according to the memorandum, on onshore projects for oil and gas exploration within Libyan territory.”

The representative of the Turkish presidency, Ibrahim Kalin, announced in a televised interview yesterday that Turkey’s capabilities in research and exploration “have increased significantly in recent years”, describing the memorandum of understanding signed with the Dabaiba government as “very legitimate and important.”

What the “Standard & Poor’s” report says

Analytical report of the American credit rating agency “Standard & Poor’s” sheds light on the consequences of the Turkish agreement recently concluded with the caretaker government.

The publication, citing economic analysts, warned of the possibility of this agreement exacerbating differences between eastern and western Libya, as well as an expected increase in tensions with an indirect impact on the oil sector, and warned of renewed violence and shifting political alliances.

According to economic analyst Elias Seddiqi, the development of contacts between Egypt, Greece, France and other European Union countries may encourage them to redouble their support for the stability government and diplomatic efforts to topple the interim government.
