The Minister of National Defense Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, representing the Government at the celebrations taking place in Thessaloniki for the 110th anniversary of the liberation of the city, welcomed today Wednesday, October 26, 2022, A.E. President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Katerina Sakellaropoulouin the Holy Church of Agios Dimitrios of Thessaloniki, where the doxology of the patron of the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Thessaloniki was held. Also present was the Chief GEETHA General Konstantinos Florosthe Chief GES Lieutenant General Charalambos Lalousisthe Chief General Vice Admiral Stylianos Petrakis PN and the Chief of the General Staff Vice Admiral Themistocles Bourolias.

After the Doxology, the Minister of National Defense stated the following:

“Great religious holidays of the Nation in many cases coincide with our great national holidays. So today, here in Thessaloniki, we celebrate with splendor the feast of the patron Saint, Saint Demetrius, as well as the anniversary of its Liberation, 110 years before the Ottoman yoke, at a time when Greece was growing and growing stronger.

We must keep within us the legacy of these times and strive so that our Homeland grows stronger even today in times of great difficulty and very complex problems, especially geopolitical ones. This is also our duty. This is also our debt.

Mr. Panagiotopoulos also attended in Aristotelous Square precision exercises performed by the Demonstration Platoon of the Military School of Officer Corps.
