The upgraded F-16s, which caught everyone’s eye at 116 AM Araxos, enable the Air Force to successfully address emerging threats in the region and operate as part of allied missions worldwide
“The Air Force is ready to do its duty at any time, under any conditions, whenever and if necessary!”
This was the clear message sent the day before yesterday by the 116 AM of Araxos, on the occasion of the feast of the Supreme Brigade Commanders, who are the patrons of the Air Force. The message, in fact, from the commander of the unit Sminarch Petros Sassaris and all the men and women manning the Araxos air base was sent at the same time as the ultra-modern F-16 block-52 + ADVs were taking off from Western Achaia bound for the southeast Aegean to deal with Turkish overflights.
“We are always on the lookout to defend our homeland,” the commander and members of the 116 AM staff said to all the agencies that were “present” at yesterday’s culmination of the festivities, in turn taking credit for the high degree of preparedness and intelligence.
The event included the usual Doxology with the presence of the Metropolitan of Patras, Mr. Chrysostomos, who stated that he was impressed by the exhibits (aircraft, weapon systems, uniforms, etc.) hosted in the 116 AM exhibition space, but also by the demonstration which took place on the subject of confronting and apprehending intruders at the air base by a special guard team, which was manned by a trained guard dog.
Of course, the main exhibit of the static display was the F-16 BLK 52+ADV, with different armament configurations. The eye-catching upgraded F-16s enable the Air Force to successfully address emerging threats in the region and operate as part of allied missions worldwide. These are the most advanced F-16s in the whole of Europe and their upgrade is done with the cooperation of the American company Lockheed Martin and the Hellenic Aviation Industry. The officials had the opportunity to see, through the briefing given to them by the commander and officers of the 116 AM himself, that with the upgrade of the Block52+/Adv, our Air Force has significantly improved the capabilities of the F-16 aircraft, making me this way the ethers Greek affair!
The event concluded with a reception hosted by the unit’s management for officials and military personnel, during which the commander of the 116 PM Petros Sassaris had the opportunity to inform his distinguished guests about matters concerning the air base, as well as to exchange views for various issues. Really, everything was very neat and the people of 116 AM proved that they get “excellent” in hospitality as well.
