With ECM the Greek FDI, Thales clarifies

Response from Toulon.

An extensive briefing focusing on the electronic warfare capabilities offered by France’s Thales took place at the Toulon Naval Base. The French company held a presentation with a reference point on electronic warfare due to the upcoming international exhibition of naval equipment Euronaval 2022. The presentation took place inside the French naval base.

In response to our question, the French company Thales pointed out that the Greek FDI will have an installation and infrastructure for ECM. At the present stage, new jammers are being developed between Thales and the Italian Electronica that will represent the cutting edge of technology and may be a solution for the PN and for Greek FDI.

In particular, as Thales’ director of electronic warfare program development, Mr. Patrick Agnieray, pointed out, the program includes the development of new jammers which will be completed in Sentinel and subsequently in SETIS, the ships’ tactical system in collaboration with the Naval Group. At the same time, for corvettes or other smaller ships, Thales proposes the Scorpion as an ECM system. Alternatively, Thales offers other solutions depending on the requirements of each navy.

Reading your comments and observations we got back to the very kind Patrick Agnieray during the working lunch. As he explained to us the interference system (ECM) is already developed. It is installed in the Italian PPA. It is based on AESA panels and is an evolution of the Nettuno already present in the FREMMs of the Italian Navy. For the FDI it can be installed in two places on the ship: on the right side of the ship as well as above the helicopter hangar. He also told us that the Scorpion MK3 is being developed, which would be another solution. The first, however, is more modern due to a different mode of operation. As he explained to us, the Scorpion is recommended for smaller ships and can be installed on Gowinds. Finally, he will soon be in our country to inform the PN (a workshop is planned) about his final decision and all the recent technological developments as mentioned epigrammatically in the lines above.
