What is the e-QIP verification code
The registration code is a 14 character alphanumeric code that your sponsoring agency must provide to you either directly or through OPM’s automated email service. Only the registration code field is case sensitive. These fields must match what your sponsoring agency has inputted into your e-QIP profile.

How long does e-QIP take to fill out
How much time do I have to complete the form? Be as timely as possible in completing your investigation request. You should earnestly try to meet the deadline your agency has established for you to complete this form. For most agencies this is within 3-7 days.

Can you edit e-QIP after submitting
Certifying your e-QIP
Releasing your SF-86 allows the Department of State to review the information you have put into your form and conduct a background investigation. NOTE: After you certify the e-QIP, you will NOT be able to edit it the form. Once the form is released you will not be able to print it.

Provide full married name, place and date of birth, citizenship information, social security number, and date of marriage. If a spouse has taken your last name, please provide their maiden name, as well as any other name they may have had, including names from previous marriages.
Can you save e-QIP and come back later
Yes. e-QIP will time you out after 20 minutes if you are not actively using the system without allowing you to ‘save’ your information. However, you will get a 5-minute warning message before the system times you out at which time you can ‘save’ your information. If e-QIP times you out, you must log back into e-QIP.

After your eQIP account has been initiated, you will receive an email notification from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) containing your eQIP Registration Code (14 characters). You can then access the eQIP website and register.
