In yet another move of strong symbolism, which translates as a message to Turkey, Washington proceeded today. Two USAF C-130 J transport aircraft flew in the morning in a cooperation exercise together with a Greek C-130 Hercules over the islands of the Eastern Aegean which have recently been targeted by Ankara. In particular, the American transports took off from the 112th Fighter Wing in Eleusis where they are hosted and together with the C-130 of our Air Force they flew over the Aegean Sea at a low altitude successively approaching Ikaria, Chios and Lesvos to return back to their Base.

While the neighbors defiantly talk about demilitarized islands and question Greece’s Sovereign Rights in the Athens FIR, the Americans fully recognize Greece’s Sovereignty over the Aegean and send USAF aircraft to its eastern borders over our arid islands causing intense irritation in Ankara.

The previous days had been preceded by a series of joint training activities of American transports with fighters and transports of our Air Force over the mainland and also from the Central Aegean. On Monday, the C-130 J together with HAF’s ”Hercules” flew a parachute drop mission in the area of Megara but also at low altitude over the Archipelago in the Cyclades up to Skyros.

While yesterday they performed the high difficulty exercise “Slow Mover Protect and Attack” over Central Greece. The scenario called for a low-altitude flight near terrain in which F-16 block 50 fighters of the 341st Arrow Squadron provided protection while F-16 block 30 aircraft of the 330th Lightning Squadron played the role of attacker. . With the Americans reportedly not hiding their absolute satisfaction with the cooperation with the HAF and the high level of training of the Greek pilots.

At the same time, the long trips to the Eastern Mediterranean of the American F-22 Raptor stealth fighters continue with Souda and the 115th Fighter Wing as their base. In the morning the top secret USAF aircraft took off from Crete and flew East accompanied by a flying tanker. They exited the Greek FIR, flew into the Nicosia FIR with permission from the Republic of Cyprus with final destination Israel and Jordan to return back to Souda. A mission lasting at least four hours.

The presence of the classified American “predators” in Greece and Souda has caused intense irritation in Ankara with the Turkish Media talking about a new challenge by Washington and a clear choice of Greece over Turkey. However, Ankara is also very upset about the relocation next week to Souda of Saudi Arabia’s F-15 fighters as part of the “Falcon Eye 3” exercise. The aircraft will remain in Greece for at least two weeks for joint exercises with the Our Air Force but also for cross-branch exercises with the design of the GEETHA throughout the Athens FIR.
