The Turks are trying to create with the ATMACA in the Aegean, area denial conditions in parts of the Aegean or even anti-access to a large part of the Archipelago, for our Navy
“Steel sword of the Blue Homeland – Range 200 kilometers”, is the new laudatory title of a Turkish media article, which is close to Erdogan and states the following:
“The Ministry of National Defense reported that the first test firing of the national Atmaca guided missile, built with a mobile land-to-sea guided missile system, was successfully carried out.
Chairman of the Defense Industry Presidency İsmail Demir said that the Atmaca missile, which Roketsan shared with the words “The steel sword of the Blue Motherland from surface to surface, Atmaca”, was tested from the ground and said: “Congratulations to Roketsan, congratulations to all involved, good luck to our armed forces.’
In the post made on the ministry’s social media account, it said that the “National” Atmaca guided missile was launched from land to a sea target for the first time with the mobile guided missile system.
The post, which stated that today’s test shooting in the Black Sea was successful, included the image of the shot.

ATMACA Anti-Ship Missile has “Advanced 3D Mission Planning” capability. Thanks to this feature, the ATMACA operator crew can pre-plan the route that the ATMACA will take on its way to its destination and add route legs.
Super Sea Skimming, especially since its start, ATMACA can skim the island in front of the target platform or destroy the target by suddenly rising and falling.
From the above it is clear that the Turks are trying to create with the ATMACA in the Aegean conditions of area denial in parts of the Aegean or even anti-access to a large part of the Archipelago, for our Navy.
It is roughly what we have seen various Turkish analysts and retired military officers describe as a naval blockade of our islands in the Aegean.
Denial of access or anti-access is defined as “the capabilities, usually of long range, designed to prevent an opposing force from entering a maritime area of operations”.
Area denial is defined as “capabilities, usually of shorter range, designed not to prevent a force from entering, but to limit freedom of action within the maritime area of operations”.
In general, the most important Anti Access capabilities include the ability to launch missiles of all ranges from surface ships, submarines, aircraft and coastal arrays.
Long-range ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance) systems suitable anti-satellite countermeasures, cyber and extended electronic warfare capability and special mission teams to destroy the enemy force’s naval and air bases.
The Area Denial capability includes an extensive area and theater air defense network, short- and medium-range anti-ship missiles, conventional anti-ship missiles, precision weapons, chemical and biological warfare capability, minelaying, small high-speed craft, and extensive use of UAVs.
