The aim is, according to information, for the National Guard to respond to modern requirements and to resolve chronic hang-ups, which in the past have held back its upgrading. The involvement of the National Guard Battalions in defense missions during the implementation of the “Pentagon’s” prevention plans demonstrates the seriousness of the National Guard institution.

The establishment of incentives in order to increase the participation rate of national guardsmen in military training to 100% has been “locked” in the beginning, i.e. for all to participate. To have a picture of the situation that prevails today, it is enough to consider that in 2018 the participation rate of national guards in training was around 35%, while in 2019 a decrease was recorded.

Incentives are established to increase the participation rate of National Guardsmen in military training. The goal is for participation to reach 100% in 2023. In 2018, the participation rate of national guards in training was at 35%, while in 2019 there was a decrease in participation.

A new political training of the national guards is being upgraded and defined, which will be based in the mission of the unit where they belong and will be able to take place even on days other than Sundays. It is noted that today the trainings and exercises of the national guards only take place on Sundays.

The staffing percentage of the National Guard Battalions will be increased, especially in the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the prefecture of Evros, considering the possibility of women also participating, but after taking into account institutional, legal and educational issues

Consequently, the mission of the National Guard consists on the one hand in contributing to the defense of the country, in maintaining the deterrent capacity of the Army and in strengthening and assisting the Armed Forces in fulfilling their mission, and on the other hand in the production of national and social work which the national guards perform all these years in local communities.
