Pensions: Increases in pensions for those in uniform are brought about by the changes in the age limits for demobilization, which with recent legislation were increased by 1 to 2 years, while from now on retirement at 35 is combined with the age limit.
With the regulation passed in the spring of 2022, the retirement age limits for all officers of the E.D., from the ranks of lieutenant general to colonel and equivalents, are set as follows:
In the 60th year for colonels, captains, captains (instead of the 58th).
In the 61st year for Army brigadier generals, captains in chief, Air Force brigadier generals, (instead of the 59th).
In the 61st year for lieutenant generals, rear admirals, vice wing generals (instead of the 60th year).

In the 64th year (instead of the 61st) for officers of the Religious Corps with the rank of brigadier general and equivalents of the other branches
In the 63rd year (instead of the 60th) for officers of the Religious Corps with the rank of colonel and equivalents of the other branches.
The retirement age limits for the following grades remain unchanged:
Officers who complete the above age limits of their rank are demobilized within one month of completing the age limit, with the basic condition that they have also completed 35 years of actual service.
The reviews will be held every year, which will give an extra incentive to keep senior officers on active duty, as under the previous regime reviews were held every three years and those who were not promoted were discharged.
The extra years of stay are of multiple benefit to the servicemen as they proportionally increase their pensions, dividends and lump sum.
Those who leave with 36 to 40 years of service will have the greatest benefits. With the new replacement rates of Law 4670/2020 (Vroutsi Law) for each year from the 36th to the 40th the compensatory pension has an annual increase of 2.55%, which means that those who extend their stay in the service until they complete the new age limit will also have an additional increase in pension.
For example, and according to the indicative table edited and published by the “Insurance and Pensions” insert:
*A soldier with the rank of brigadier general who would retire at 59 and now retires at 61 will have a 5.10% increase in the compensatory pension calculation factor. If at 61 he leaves with 38 years, while he would leave at 59 with 36 years, the total compensatory pension calculation factor will be 44.91% instead of 39.81%. With pensionable earnings of 2,925 euros and retirement at the old age limit (59 years) with 36 years, he would receive a pension of 1,548 euros. With the new age limit (61) and with 38 years of service, he will receive 1,698 euros, i.e. 150 euros more pension.
*A Medical Officer (military doctor) with the rank of brigadier would retire at 62 to 35 years old and now retires at 64 which will be 37 years old. For the two additional years, he earns a 5.05% increase in the compensatory pension calculation factor. With 35 years the coefficient is 37.31% and with 37 years 42.36%. With pensionable earnings of 2,550 euros and retirement at the old age limit (62) with 35 years, he would receive a pension of 1,335 euros. With the new age limit (64) and with 37 years, he will receive 1,464 euros, i.e. 129 euros more pension.
Changes have already taken place since 2020 (by Presidential Decree 93/13/11/2020) to the age limits that Greek Police officers can leave. From the rank of police director and above, they were extended by one year and have been structured as follows:
The age limits for demobilization in the following grades remain unchanged:
Officers who retire with the age limits must complete 35 years of actual service, which includes school years, the “double” 5 years and military service.
In any other case, the retirement of the officers of the Security Forces and the Armed Forces is allowed upon completion of 40 years of service without age limit.
It is noted that those insured up to 1992 who complete 24.5 years (excluding their combat service) by 2014 retire with a total of 30.5 years of service, while those who complete 24.5 years (mainly young people insured from 1993 onwards) from 2015 onwards they retire either at 40 years with no age limit or at the age limits provided for retirement in each grade with 35 years of service.
