The Ministry of National Defense points out, on the occasion of what was claimed today by the Chief of the Opposition Officer, Mr. Alexis Tsipras during his visit to the ODA, regarding the non-participation of the domestic defense industry in the evolving armament programs, the following is highlighted:
– While ODA was discredited and turned into a parking lot for damaged aircraft from 2015 to 2019, with immediate decisions and in conditions of complete transparency, the Government decided to put the company into full operation, with the recruitment of additional staff, so that it can cope today in the requirements for the implementation of the upgrade of 83 fighter aircraft F16 in version Viperwithin the schedules and quality requirements of the manufacturing company, the disengagement of the upgrade program of P-3 “Orion” of the PN and the maintenance of the aircraft C-130, for which there was not even a Continuing Support Agreement until recently (FOS), as a result of which they remain fixed without any perspective.
– On October 19, 2022, the Ministry of Defense officially announced the signing of a total of twelve contracts between Greek defense equipment companies and French Groups.NAVAL GROUP“, “THALES” and “MBDA” about the frigate program FDI Belh@rra HN. Already at TIF it was announced that the participation of companies of the Greek Defense Industry in the shipbuilding program of the new frigates of the PN will rise to 15-18%. As the Group has announced “NAVAL GROUP”, fifty Greek companies have been evaluated, some of which have signed contracts for Research and Development (R&D) systems.
– The two Greek shipyards, after years of disrepair, have already entered the path of consolidation with the visible prospect of undertaking shipbuilding work from both the corvette acquisition program (which is in the final phase of negotiations) and from the EMZ program of the four frigates MEKO.
– The participation of Greece in the various European programs in the defense sector through the European Defense Fund EDF (European Defense Fund) is in the top five of all participating countries. From the last program of 2022 alone, Greek companies will be strengthened with 45 million euros through financing from the programs of EDF.
And it goes on and on.
From the above it follows that the claim that “the domestic defense industry will not benefit even by one euro from equipment worth 14 billion” is not only false but also outrageous. Given the utter inactivity of his government tenure, Mr. Tsipras’s interest in the domestic defense industry is belated and hypocritical. As for the announcement of the “renegotiation” of the contracts, the previous painful experience of the country from the result of the last major renegotiation that he and his Government had done, can only cause great concern.
