The Deputy Minister of National Defense Mr. Nikolaos Hardalias attended today, Tuesday November 8, 2022, the events for the 110th anniversary of the liberation of Mytilene from the Turkish yoke, as a representative of the Greek Government.

The Deputy Minister of National Defense attended the official Doxology held at the Metropolitan Church of Agios Athanasios, patron of the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Mytilene, Eres & Plomari etc. Iakovos. Afterwards, he went to the “Kioski” area where he attended the memorial service and laid a wreath at the monument to the Fallen. Finally, he attended a parade with the participation of students, cultural clubs and units of the Armed Forces.

After the parade, the Deputy Minister of National Defense visited the ship LS-600 of the Coast Guard and exchanged greetings with its officers. The specific ship bears the name of the deceased Vice Captain L.S. Kyriakos Papadopouloswho, as the captain of the patrol vessel LS-602, took part in dozens of rescue operations for refugees and migrants in the waters of the Aegean, in the passage between Lesbos and the coasts of Asia Minor.

Concluding his visit to Mytilini, Mr. Hardalias stated:
