Participation of the Armed Forces in the Multinational Air Exercise “OCEAN SKY 2023”

From Friday 13 to Friday 27 October 2023, and in the context of the wider planning of GEETHA in terms of international cooperation, the Armed Forces (AF) participated in the Multinational Air Exercise named “OCEAN SKY 2023”, conducted under the direction and the coordination of the Spanish Air Force (Spanish Air Force – SAF), at Gando Air Base in the Canary Islands of Spain.

“OCEAN SKY 2023” is an INVITEX – LIVEX (Invitation to an Exercise – Live Exercise) type exercise that takes place on an annual basis. Its purpose is to train the participants in air missions (Air to Air) which created a highly demanding operational environment, which contributed to the promotion of the level of operational readiness, combat capability and cooperation of the participants in a multilateral and allied context.

Greece participated in the Exercise with 4 Aircraft (A/F) F-16 and the corresponding support personnel. Spain, Portugal, and the Turkey by aircraft, as well as by air from the European Air Transport Command – EATC (1 A/F KC767 from Italy, 1 A/F A330MRTT from France and 1 A/F A400M from Spain).

During the Exercise, the following complex operational scenarios were examined in a multi-threat environment:

• Offensive Air Operations (Offensive Counter Air – OCA).
• Defensive Air Operations (Defensive Counter Air – DCA).
• High Value Airborne Asset Attack/Protect Missions (HVAA Attack/Protect).
• Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR).
