Nordic Monitor: Espionage in Athens and Thessaloniki! A policeman from the Turkish embassy was watching Gulenists

The Nordic Monitor publishes a secret document from the Turkish authorities, in which it is stated that the espionage activities were part of a wider secret operation conducted by the Turkish government in Greece to identify Gulenists.

A new revealing publication by the Nordic Monitor talks about an espionage ring set up by a Turkish police officer, gathering information in the context of a secret operation conducted by the Turkish government in Greece to identify Gulenists.

Nordic Monitor publishes a confidential document sent by Turkey’s General Directorate of Security (Emniyet) on September 2, 2020 to at least twelve Turkish police departments in order to provide them with information and evidence collected by the Turkish police from surveillance in Athens and Thessaloniki .

According to the report, a Turkish police officer assigned to the Turkish embassy in Athens spied on at least six businesses and 13 persons of interest in Athens and Thessaloniki, including a restaurant, a retail market, a real estate agency and a car rental agency.

In fact, in some cases, the wives of the owners of the aforementioned businesses, who allegedly had connections with the famous Gülen network (FETO), were the subject of espionage and monitoring.

“The spying activity shows that the Erdogan government not only ignores the law in a neighboring NATO country, but also violates the law that prohibits the Turkish police from conducting such operations,” comments the Nordic Monitor.
