Her family is in mourning as they still cannot believe that 19-year-old Thalia, due to a fever, was found in a few hours in the ICU and later ended up
Mystery continues to cover the causes of death for the 19-year-old naval cadet who was aboard the General Support Ship “Prometheus” and “went out” in just over 48 hours.
Her family has been plunged into mourning as they still cannot believe that 19-year-old Thalia, due to a fever, was found in a few hours in the ICU and later died.
It is recalled that on Tuesday, the 19-year-old developed a fever and was immediately given antipyretics and antibiotics, however the symptoms persisted.
158 cadets participated in the sailing training on two ships, the frigate “Kanaris” and the general support ship “Prometheus” (the largest ship in the fleet). The 19-year-old cadet, who had just finished her first year of school, was aboard the “Prometheus”. The two ships were heading for Naples, however, due to the young woman’s illness, they hurried the ship.
Upon their arrival in the Italian city, the cadet was taken to a hospital where she developed a hemorrhagic rash and then sepsis. Yesterday, the clinical picture of the 19-year-old showed rapid deterioration and she was admitted to the ICU. Doctors from Greece also went to Italy, but the girl ended up in the morning hours of Thursday.
Her family was immediately informed, while her body will come to Greece by C-130.
The General Staff of the Navy, in its announcement, states: “On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, the First-Year Naval Cadet K.E. which was on board PROMITHEUS, as part of the Summer Training Course of the Naval Cadet School, was transferred to a hospital in Naples, Italy, as she developed a fever of unknown cause. In the morning hours of August 24, her clinical condition rapidly deteriorated and she was admitted to the ICU where she ended up in the morning hours of August 25. The exact cause of death is being investigated. The General Staff of the Navy expresses its sorrow for the loss of the Naval Cadet and our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones.”
“She was always smiling, optimistic, courageous, never complained. He gave Panhellenics a second time to join the Navy. It was her dream since childhood.” With these words, Thalia’s brother describes the 19-year-old naval cadet who was on board the General Support Ship “Prometheus” and “went out” in just over 48 hours.
He and his family still cannot believe how his sister met a tragic death. “The first phone call we had was from the doctor, that he is not well. We had nothing from her. The doctor had told us that he has developed a rash on his leg, he has a little fever but it is controlled and he feels tired in his knees” he described in “Live News”.
As she says, “they took us yesterday to tell us that she was intubated and my parents went there to support her. Every time they stopped, we talked. He was gone for 40 days. It was last week. We were waiting for her how and how”.
Two of the Naval Cadet School students participating in the summer sailing training have a low-grade fever and stomach pains. As a precaution, they have been transferred for treatment to a hospital in Naples where the 19-year-old was also. Their symptoms point to poisoning.
According to information from onlarissa.gr, the possibility is being considered that they suffered poisoning during their stay in Tunisia.
Navy sources state that after the tragic death of the 19-year-old, they are very cautious precisely because they do not know the cause of death of the Naval Cadet School student.
In the meantime, Thalia’s aunt, V., reports to ThessToday.gr that the trainee had contracted the coronavirus ten days ago, while when she tested negative, she did 24-hour duty without feeding.
Combined with the loss of her body from covid-19, the relatives believe that the leaders of the Armed Forces did not weigh the situation correctly and left Thalia exposed.
