Russian Ambassador to the UN: The Black Sea remains a war zone – What is this called if it is not essentially Russian control of the entire Black Sea?
We have terrible developments after the attack of the Ukrainians in Sevastopol.
Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, said: “Russia cannot allow unimpeded passage of ships through the Black Sea without inspection.
Kiev’s action, directed against the ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, puts an end to the humanitarian dimension of the “grain agreement”.
As the Russian permanent representative noted, agreements on the passage of ships through the Black Sea without the participation of Russia should not be implemented, and decisions made without Russia do not oblige the Russian side in anything.
“We continue from the fact that the “Black Sea Initiative” concluded between Russia, Turkey and Ukraine, with the assurance of the UN on July 22, should not be implemented without us, and the decisions and measures taken without our participation are not they force us into anything,” Nebenzia told a UN Security Council meeting.
“Given the events of Russia’s abuse of the humanitarian corridor and the fact that the Black Sea remains a war zone,” the permanent representative noted, Russia can no longer allow ships to pass unhindered without its inspection.
“We will be forced to take independent measures to control dry cargo ships that passed through the Joint Coordination Center without our approval,” he said.
Turkey expressed regret over the suspension of Russia’s participation in the implementation of the grain agreement.
As the representative of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Omer Celik noted, Turkey hopes that the “Black Sea Initiative”, which provided access to grain, will not be terminated.
At the same time, experts from Turkey and the UN resumed inspections of ships under the grain deal after Russia decided to suspend participation in its implementation.
In turn, the special representative of the President of Russia for the countries of the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said that Russia will continue to support African countries after the suspension of participation in the grain agreement.
Western countries, NATO and the UN have called on Russia to return to implementing the agreement.
The food agreement was concluded on 22 July 2022 in Istanbul.
We have many more episodes to see in this sea, while the Bosphorus Straits will soon be targeted by the Russians.
