MINISTRY: Answers to the G3 rifle upgrade program

The upgrade of the rifle is directly intertwined with the advanced technological quorums, which may arise in the future, but the possible future upgrade of the G3 rifle cannot be estimated at this time, while clearly this will occur if it is deemed beneficial for the service.

This was emphasized by the Minister of National Defense, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, in response to a question submitted by SYRIZA MPs on the subject of “Contract for the Supply of Improvements to the Existing Rifle G3 (Supply of Assemblies to Upgrade the Rifle)”.

Mr. Panagiotopoulos clarified that “the quorums referred to in the question have not been certified by the EAS” and added: “Each economic entity, therefore also the EAS ABEE, has the opportunity to prepare for their participation in the tender in question and to submit the required supporting documents, for which the ASDYS/DPM has granted an extension for the submission of tenders until August 9, 2022”.

He also underlined that “no economic operator is excluded from the tendering process” while regarding the signing of the notice, he said that “according to the current duties of ASDYS, the deputy director has the possibility, in the absence of the director, to sign the outgoing documents as happened in this case as well”. “Besides”, he added, “the practice of signing documents for the absent leaders, due to various reasons, is a prescribed, followed and usual practice in the Armed Forces”.

On June 30, 2022, as the minister pointed out, “a meeting was held between representatives of GES and the company EAS ABEE, in order to examine the issues of contracts that are in progress with the company in question, as well as programs to be contracted or of interest to it”.

The meeting “was deemed beneficial both for GES, in terms of the prospect of speeding up the completion of existing contracts, and for the company in question, for highlighting the undertaking of the new construction project from the future equipment programs of GES”, he concluded, in his answer , Mr. Panagiotopoulos.
