The Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy, Christos Stylianidis, had a meeting with the President of the Association of Passenger Shipping Businesses (SEEN), Mr. Dionysis Theodoratos and the members of the Board of Directors, in his office today, which was attended by Deputy Minister Ioannis Pappas and the General Secretary of Ports Dr. Evangelos Kyriazopoulos. The meeting in question took place in the wake of the new measures to implement European regulations, in the context of “Fitfor 55” for the Passenger Shipping industry.
During the meeting, which took place in a very good atmosphere, issues concerning the coastal shipping industry were extensively analyzed, with particular reference to the green transition of coastal shipping and the strengthening of insularity, the coastal transport network, cohesion and geographical continuity.
In particular, as Mr. Stylianides characteristically mentioned, “coastal shipping is one of the main pillars of shipping, since millions of passengers move through it”. At the same time, the Minister assured that there will be continuous and active cooperation with the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy for the management of the ongoing challenges that the sector has to face.
From the side of the ferry companies, the focus of the meeting and discussions were on the green investments of passenger shipping, the issues of strengthening and the direct contribution of the State to measures to support insularity, the resolution of the long-standing institutional requests of the Association of Passenger Shipping Companies, the improvement of the institutional fiscal terms and conditions of the viability of the coastal shipping companies, port governance, the grant and the attraction of funds for the necessary renewal of the coastal shipping fleet and the achievement of the “green” transition of the Greek Passenger Shipping, with newer and friendlier ships the environment.
The President of S.E.N., Mr. Theodoratos, informed the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr. Stylianidis, about the multi-year institutional, operational and updated requests of the shipping sector. He also emphasized that the “Hellenic Shipping Community” is the main pillar of Greek insularity, cohesion and geographical continuity.
The Association, through the Bureau, pledged to the Minister that it will assist the government work, offering all possible help and cooperation in a documented and scientific manner, for the effective service of the islands and the islanders, for the benefit of tourism development, cohesion, of the country’s geographical continuity and economy.
The meeting on behalf of S.E.N. was attended by the President Mr. Dionysios Theodoratos, the members of the Board of Directors the Vice President of Shipping Mr. Efstratios Apergis, the Vice President of International Shipping Mr. Spyridon Protopapadakis, the Secretary General Mr. Theologos Panagiotakis , the members Mr. Panagiotas Krassakopoulou, Mr. Michael Michael, Mr. Vasilios Mammis, the Honorary President Mr. Michael Sakellis and the Director Mr. Konstantinos Gonias.
