The Minister of National Defense Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos had a meeting today, Wednesday, September 21, with an 11-member delegation of the American organization Business Executive for National Security – VENS (Business Executives for National Security), which was accompanied by the US Ambassador in Athens, Mr. George Tsounis.

During the meeting, the importance of the strategic defense relationship between Greece and the USA and its further expansion and deepening, for the security of the two countries and stability in the wider region, was emphasized.

Greece’s important role as a security and stability factor in the region, the geopolitical value of Alexandroupolis and the importance of upgrading its facilities and infrastructure, through a continuous flow of investments, were also highlighted.

The Minister also referred to the possibilities of mutually beneficial cooperation between the Greek defense industry and American defense industries, taking into account the comparative advantage, know-how and infrastructure available to our country.

Finally, the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and the developments of the war in Ukraine were discussed. Mr. Panagiotopoulos made special reference to the importance of avoiding destabilizing, transgressive and revisionist behaviors, which are contrary to International Law and the principle of good neighborliness.
