How old do you have to be to do Army Cadets?

The Army Cadets can offer a lot of exciting opportunities to young people from 12 and 17 years old, but we know that parents and carers will have questions about the Army cadets, what it does and the kind of activities our cadets take part in.

Can you join cadets at 14

For fun, friendship, action and adventure, join the Army Cadet Force If you’re over 12 and under 18, you can join the Army Cadets.

Can you join cadets at 16

Equality is a central part of the Air Cadets’ ethic. The cadet experience is open to everyone, so whatever your nationality, background or ability, whether you’re male or female, if you’re between 13 (or 12 if in Year 8) and 17 years old you can join us.

How much does cadets cost

A: You can join as soon as you are 12 years old and can stay until your 19th birthday. Q: How much does the program cost? A: Cadets is a free program, there is no cost to join.

Are Army Cadets free

There will be costs for attending weekend training camps, annual camps and other activities, but we try to keep these as low as possible. Parade nights in detachments are free, but some detachments may request a small weekly subscription to go towards detachment events and visits.

The maximum age for entry is 17 years old, therefore you can request to join us anytime between your 12th and 17th birthday. If you are above that age group and still want to enjoy all of our activities and more, you could join as a volunteer.

How much sleep do cadets get

For example, at the U.S. Military Academy, cadets sleep less than 5 hours per night during the week and under 7 hours per night on weekends. Troops at basic training get an average five to six hours of sleep a night and often are awoken several times a night for training.

Do you have to be fit to join Army Cadets

No. So long as you are medically fit (can pass an ENG1 medical examination) you can apply to become a cadet.

Do cadets wear uniforms?
