The American BLACK HAWK transport helicopters are not the first time that they have concerned the leadership of the land army, since the current Chief of the GES, General X. Lalousis, when he had moved to the USA, had raised the issue with the Americans
The Americans came and presented us with the BLACK HAWK helicopters for the ground army and the Israelis for the Operational Avionics Layer (OPAL) system, which if implemented will clearly set new standards.
On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, a presentation was made to GES staff by the representatives of the Aviation Procurement Systems company regarding a proposal for the procurement of BLACK HAWK air defense systems, the Ministry of Defense reports.
According to press reports, we have had continuous presentations in recent months at the General Staff of the Army about the American Black Hawk helicopters, since the leadership of the GES has a huge interest in this matter.
This is nothing new, but it shows that our country is now moving at a racing pace, in terms of equipment that must meet the immediate needs of the armed forces, especially the ground forces.
The American BLACK HAWK transport helicopters are not the first time that they have concerned the leadership of the land army, since the current Chief of the GES, General X. Lalousis, when he had moved to the USA, had raised the issue with the Americans, but he received a negative response, while the release of the helicopters that were previously offered to us was not in the interest of our country.
Now the facts have changed, especially after the movements of the Turks and as everything shows, a possible purchase of American BLACK HAWK helicopters is imminent, with which we will create the first Greek “Flying Cavalry” force, as the Americans call it.
This is an air force for the transport of elite infantry forces, which will be the most rational solution to any suspected Turkish air landing plan against our islands.
The transfer of a large numerical force of armored infantry to the point of need, with BLACK HAWK helicopters, (with or without the escort of our fighter aircraft in the Aegean), could be lifesaving in scenarios of possible Greek-Turkish conflict, in case the Turks offended small island with few or no inhabitants.
Turkey has been eyeing our islands in the Aegean, openly questioning their sovereignty, which has led our country to strengthen its aeronautical capabilities. The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk is a medium-lift transport helicopter manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft.
Israeli data exchange system will change operational capabilities
On Monday, October 24, 2022, a meeting of representatives of the company “IAI Ltd”, Mr. Ariel Avrech (Director, Marketing, Aviation Group), Mr. Kya Itzhak (Director, Marketing, Aviation Group) and Mr. Ilan Zaharan (Director of NCW & Training), with relevant staff of the GEA.
The purpose of the meeting was the presentation on behalf of the company of the capabilities of the Operational Avionics Layer (OPAL) system, which it manufactures, reports the Ministry of the Interior.
For those who don’t know, OPAL is a system of network connectivity, data exchange and coordination of all operational missions for air, land and naval forces.
Information brings our country to be seriously interested in this system that groups all systems, completely controlling the actions on land, air and sea.
This is extremely important in a period of military operations and events in the Aegean or the Eastern Mediterranean for example, since it gives the military leadership the picture of what is taking place, while at the same time it transfers data to all weapon systems and in the Three Dimensions, vertically increasing the possibility critical blow to the enemy under any conditions.
There is no other way for our country in the face of the crude Turkish provocations, than the continuous reinforcement and readiness of its armed forces, with the main one being the decision to act suddenly and decisively if and when the circumstances require it.
