Greece gets MQ-9 Reaper – They reach Kastellorizo and beyond

Greece is one step closer to acquiring the new unmanned aircraft from the Armed Forces as the relevant file is already for consultation in the relevant committee of the Parliament.

According to information, we are talking about the MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aircraft, specifically in their naval version.

This addition will give the Greek Staff the ability to have image and sound in real time, and from the borders of the Greek territory and beyond, as the 1,900 km range it has, enables it to fly up to limits of the Greek FIR of Athens, i.e. even further away from Kastellorizo and to provide in real time, image and sound, as well as all the other electronic data that the Staffs need, but also to record the situation that prevails in real time.

Our country will acquire 3 aircraft, if and as long as the program progresses rapidly, as for example the issue of upgrading the F-16, and they are expected in the next 1 to 2 years.

According to the report, the cost of buying three MQ-9 Reapers together with their control stations amounts to 400 million euros.

The US drones will complement the existing fleet as well as the anti-drone umbrella that is already being created as the Turkish side insists on offensive actions.

We remind you that the Minister of Foreign Affairs N. Dendias noted that our national security is primarily our business and is based on our own strengths.

In the show of Giorgos Autias, Mr. Iatridis (Vice Admiral E.A.) argued that by 2027 our country will definitely have 24 Rafale, 121 F-16 VIPER and the Block 50+ and we will receive the first 2 or 3 F -35.
