A broad meeting of the involved competent Ministries and Services of Greece and Cyprus on issues of Missing Persons since the Turkish invasion of 1974, was held under the Deputy Minister of National Defense Mr. Nikolaos Hardalia on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Ministry of National Defense.

The meeting was attended by the Commissioner of the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Light of Firethe Chief GEETHA General Konstantinos Florosthe Ambassador of Cyprus to Greece Mr. Kyriakos Kenevezosthe Director of the Cyprus Division A2 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece Minister Plenipotentiary A’ m. Miss Lourbakouthe Director of the Cypriot & Turkish Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Mr. Spyros Attasthe Officer of the Cyprus & Turkey Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus K. Eleni Tziortzi and senior officials of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Greece and Cyprus.

Also present were representatives of the Greek Cypriot Community in the Investigative Committee for the Missing Persons, Officers of the competent Directorates of the Ministries of Defense of Greece and Cyprus, of the General Staff of National Defense, as well as the Presidents of the Pan-Hellenic Committee of Parents and Relatives of Undeclared Prisoners & Missing Persons of the Cyprus Tragedy, etc. Maria Kalbourtzi and the All-Cypriot Organization of Relatives of Undeclared, Prisoners & Missing Persons, etc. Nikos Sergidis.

The participants, in a productive discussion, confirmed the long-expressed will of the two sister countries, submitting new proposals for approach, utilization of evidence and access to obstacles, jointly setting timetables, emphasizing that Greece and Cyprus have a historical and moral debt towards the heroes and families them to definitively resolve this particularly important and sensitive issue.
