Dozens of illegal immigrants “occupied” Greek territory of the island of Evros and trigger a crisis

Dozens of illegal immigrants have been re-trapped on a densely populated Greek island in the river Evros, north of the homonymous prefecture and are asking the Greek authorities to pick them up and transport them, triggering a new crisis on the border with Turkey.

The foreigners, 54 in number, passed on the island without being noticed by the Greek authorities and posted pictures with their children on the internet, where they ask for their “rescue”.

The Turks refuse to take them back and send more and more every day.

About 500-1000 cross the river to the west every day. Typical are the images from the village of Ormenio, where the illegal immigrants entered undisturbed.

Concentrations of Turkish units have been observed on the east bank, warning Greeks not to repatriate illegal immigrants back to Turkish territory. Corresponding Greek units are monitoring the whole situation.

The same scenario with illegal immigrants on a Greek island of Evros had existed a few days ago.
