Disruption of a criminal group, whose members systematically committed thefts from houses, in areas of the Southern Suburbs of Attica

A member of the criminal group was arrested after committing a theft in a house in Voula, while -2- other members are being sought

-3- cases of theft from houses, committed and attempted, as well as a case of theft of motorcycle license plates were solved

The illegal financial gain obtained by the members of the criminal group exceeds the amount of -66,000- euros

Among other things, a number of items (jewelry, gold, watches) were seized, some of which were identified as stolen by the victims

A criminal group was dismantled from the Southeast Attica Security Sub-Directorate of the Attica Security Directorate, whose members systematically committed thefts from houses in areas of the Southern Suburbs of Attica.

For the case, a 31-year-old man, a member of the criminal group, was arrested yesterday afternoon, Friday, October 20, 2023, in the area of ​​the center of Athens, and a case file was filed against him for a criminal group, distinguished cases of theft committed and attempted, by complicity and by follow-up, for disobedience, as well as for violation of drug legislation, while the filed case file also includes -2- persons, whose details have been identified and are being sought.

As it emerged from the investigation, at least since August of this year, the above defendants joined together and formed a criminal group-gang with the purpose of committing thefts in houses in areas of the Southern Suburbs of Attica, obtaining illegal financial benefit.

As for the method of action, the members of the gang went to the aforementioned areas and after targeting the house to be burglarized, they climbed onto its balcony, where with the use of burglary tools-screwdrivers, they breached the balcony doors and gained access inside them, while they then searched the areas of the residences from where they removed gold, valuables and money, which they stored and hid in a “hideout” house.

After using information and data, the involvement of the defendants in a total of -4- cases of theft was identified.

In particular, it was identified the involvement of one of the accused in the case of a house theft that took place in the evening hours of October 19, 2023 in the area of ​​Voula, where after breaking the glass of the balcony door, he entered inside and then removed watches, jewelry and items, with a total value of – 7,000-euro approximately.

To put an end to their action, a special group of police officers was formed, who located yesterday afternoon (20-10-2023) in an area of ​​the center of Athens a 31-year-old, member of the criminal group, where in an imminent control he fled on foot, rejecting backpack with burglary tools – screwdrivers and gloves, however he was stopped and arrested, and the aforementioned backpack was confiscated.

So far, it has been identified the involvement of the accused in -2 more cases of theft from houses, on 31/08/2023 in the area of ​​Glyfada and in the case of an attempted theft of a house on 15/09/2023 in Voula, as well as a case of theft of motorcycle license plates which was held during the period from 19-20/10/2023 in the area of ​​Zografou.

In searches carried out in the presence of a judicial officer in a short-term rental residence and in a motorcycle storage area, which was also confiscated, a large amount of stolen goods (jewelry, gold, watches, sunglasses, perfumes, designer bags and shoes) were found and confiscated, some of which were identified as stolen from the victims of the thefts, an improvised nylon package containing a small amount of cannabis, as well as burglary tools (screwdriver and Allen keys).

The illegal financial gain obtained by the members of the criminal group from the cases of theft identified so far exceeds the amount of -66,000- euros.

The arrested person, with the case filed against him, is being taken to the competent prosecuting authority, while the investigation to identify the remaining members of the criminal group, as well as the full extent of their criminal activity, continues.
