Completion of TAMS National Interbranch Exercise “NIKITIS-DIMITRA 2023”


On Friday, June 16, 2023, the National Interbranch Post-Army Tactical Exercise (TAMS) “NIKITIS-DIMITRA 2023” concluded. The exercise was of a large scale and was conducted in the land, sea and air space of the Republic of Cyprus, with the participation of personnel and means of the General Staff, Commands, Formations and Tactical Groups of the National Guard, while in phases of the exercise scheduled and emergency personnel were called and participated reservists and national guards. State agencies and services related to defense and security, under the coordination of the Central Emergency Policy Planning Service (CYPSEA) of the Ministry of Defense, involved in providing support to the National Guard, also participated.

The purpose of the exercise was to train and accustom all staff to decision-making processes, to convert them into instructions and orders in a period of tension, crisis and business, to practice the departments in cross-industry operational scenarios, to deal with the unexpected, the evaluation of the operational tools, the management system, the recruitment system, as well as the implementation and testing of plans. In this context, the Formations and Commands of the General Staff of the National Guard planned and executed individual exercises of small and medium scale, to examine branch and cross-branch scenarios on land, sea and air, which were shaped in such a way as to simulate real conditions during operations .

In particular, during the exercise, items related to the survivability of the Units, the execution of combined and interdisciplinary operations to deal with both conventional and asymmetric threats and their support in matters of Administrative Care were examined.

Phases of the exercise were attended by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Michalis Giorgallas, the Chief of the National Guard, Lt. Gen. Demokritos Zervakis, the Deputy Chief, Lt. Gen. Loukas Hatzimichael, the Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Ioannis Vassilakis and the rest of the GEF Hierarchy.

The Chief congratulated all the staff, conveying the satisfaction of the Minister of Defense, underlining that the results of the “NIKITIS-DIMITRA 2023” TAMS confirmed the perfection of the design, the detailed preparation, the accurate and efficient conduct as well as the high level of combat capability of the Units, factors that contribute to increasing the operational readiness of the National Guard.
