“Gazi” for the acquisition of F-35s is pressing Athens, with the official request to the US government for 1 + 1 degrees of 5th generation aircraft to be sent at the end of this week or at the beginning of next next at the latest.

All the while, the JPO team, the Pentagon’s special agent in charge of F-35 sales, was in Athens participating in the feverish preparations with the political and military leadership of the Ministry of Defense, so that the LoR could as soon as possible, as, according to sources of the General Staff of the Hellenic Air Force, in this process every minute counts.

What the letter contains

According to information from “Political”, with the request it will send, Athens will request information on the cost and availability of 20 F-35 aircraft, with the option for another squad, ie for 20 additional fighters, so that in the long run to have 40 ready-made “stealth” F-35.

The letter will include a question about the type and cost of infrastructure required, with competent sources explaining that if the Air Force chooses to deploy the F-35s on a base with modern facilities and security systems, even faster times will be achieved. integration of fighters in the Greek arsenal and, in fact, at the lowest possible cost.

The Greek LoR will also request information on the training of the pilots of the aircraft, such as the duration, the cost and the place where the first pilots will be trained. According to information, the letter will include a request from Greece for the installation of four simulators, so that the pilots are introduced to the new 5th generation environment gradually, from the ground, since, as is known, there are no two-seater F-35s. The training of technicians who will take on the critical role of keeping the availability of the state-of-the-art aircraft high will also be intensive. Finally, in the letter that it will send to the Pentagon, Athens will ask for the cost to be included for the further support of the fighter, while reference will be made to “fast deliveries”, so that the first F-35s will land in Greece at the end of 2027.

After all, as provided for in the revised Greece-United States Defense Cooperation Agreement, the American president is authorized to expedite the procedures, so that the program becomes “urgent”.

Athens, for its part, wants to complete the process as soon as possible, in order to take advantage of the favorable climate in the US Congress, which will be called upon to ratify the Greek request, and on the other hand to secure a good position on the production line. and more Airlines are choosing the F-35 as the aircraft of the future.

“Answer” in Turkish UAVs

At the same time, the Greek Staff is preparing its own “response” to the Turkish Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, which almost daily carry out violations of the National Airspace and overflights over Greek islands. Even yesterday, a Turkish UAV flew over Kinaro, while a few days ago a corresponding drone made two overflights over Kandelioussa.

The plan that Athens is considering concerns the placement of ground stations on islands in the Eastern Aegean, which will “blind” the Turkish Bayraktar through interference. The result will be that the UAVs become disoriented or even lose contact with their control center altogether. According to information, Israel and South Africa have such systems and are already in advanced discussions with the Greek side, which is expected to finalize the agreement in the coming weeks.
