After Alexandroupoli, Limnos?

After essentially the creation of a NATO base in Alexandroupolis, the Chief of the GEETHA, Konstantinos Floros, seeks to include two more points in Greece in the interests of the Americans.

As To Vima tis Kyriaki reports, Mr. Floros seeks, by making use of his recent contacts in the US, to “open the eyes” of his American interlocutors to two other parts of – island – Greece that Washington should include in the plans her. These are Skyros and Lemnos.

Especially for Lemnos, an “island – thorn” for Turkey, it is a geographical location – key to the need for aircraft for refueling in the context of aerial surveillance and policing.

Turkey will stand firm on its position on demilitarizing the island, but now, at the current juncture, both the Americans and NATO may have to start rethinking it. And this applies mainly to the State Department, Vima reports.

In the meantime, on Thursday night, the US ambassador in Athens, George Tsounis, hosted a dinner for General Christopher Cavoli, the supreme military commander of the allied forces in Europe. The general was the one who approved a fund of 2.3 million euros for the recovery of the dredger OLGA from the problems where the ships of the NATO forces are currently active.

At the dinner according to the “Pacemaker”, it was said that in Alexandroupoli there are no longer only Americans, but also Italians and, since September, British. Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos was among the guests of the American ambassador.
